Fort-Coulonge lifts state of emergency following Spring flooding

24 April 2026 à 12:19 pm

The Municipality of Fort-Coulonge has announced that the state of emergency declared due to the 2026 spring flooding has now been lifted.

Conditions continue to improve: the Ottawa River level has dropped by 12 cm over the past 48 hours, while the Coulonge River has decreased by 48 cm during the same period. However, some preventive measures remain in place, including the maintenance of sandbag dikes on Bord-de-l’Eau Street and at the earthen bridge (Baume Street).

According to municipal officials, forecasts remain favorable and do not indicate any significant rise in water levels. The reopening of the Red Bridge is expected soon, pending authorization from the Quebec Ministry of Transport.

The municipality reminds residents that certain precautions are still in effect, including close supervision near flooded areas, the closure of Parc du Centenaire, and restricted access to certain areas.

This notice was issued by the Municipality of Fort-Coulonge on April 24th, 2026.
