Spring flood update: high water levels under monitoring in Mansfield-et-Pontefract

21 April 2026 à 11:47 am

The Municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract is providing an update on the hydrological situation as the Ottawa and Coulonge rivers remain under close surveillance due to still-elevated water levels.

According to data from the Ottawa River Flood Forecasting Centre (CPRRO), the Ottawa River recorded a level of 108.62 m this morning, slightly lower than the previous day. The forecast for today is 108.75 m. Despite this slight decrease, municipal authorities emphasize that the situation remains fragile and requires constant monitoring.

On the Coulonge River, the trend is also downward, with a drop of approximately 6 cm observed since the beginning of the day at Pont Blanc. The CPRRO is forecasting stabilization, although municipal officials remain cautious given the uncertainty of hydrological predictions.

Several roads in the area are already flooded, resulting in access restrictions in certain sectors. The municipality is asking residents to avoid entering affected areas in order to ensure their safety and avoid interfering with ongoing operations.

Authorities also remind residents not to remove their flood protection installations, noting that water levels could still fluctuate in the coming hours or days.

If needed, support is available for citizens who must leave their homes. The municipal office and emergency services are available to assist those affected with relocation or safe evacuation procedures. In case of immediate danger, residents are urged to call 911.

The municipality continues to closely monitor the situation and encourages the public to consult official sources to track real-time water level updates.
