The TÉO is investing $70,000 to support summer programs for vulnerable youth.
The Table Éducation Outaouais (TÉO) is announcing a transitional strategy to support projects aimed at vulnerable youth in the region for summer 2026, despite delays in funding announcements from the Ministry of Education for the 2026–2029 period.
The organization confirms that a $70,000 envelope will be reinvested from its unrestricted assets to maintain local educational success initiatives. This amount represents about 40% of the funding granted last year for this type of project.
These initiatives aim in particular to address the “summer slide,” a well-documented phenomenon that leads to a loss of academic skills during the summer months, especially in reading and mathematics. Vulnerable youth are the most affected.
In 2025, TÉO supported 14 projects reaching nearly 1,745 participants, including 891 young people. The organization fears that current funding uncertainty could jeopardize the continuity of these efforts in 2026.
TÉO president Steve Brabant says this decision is intended to ensure service continuity while awaiting government announcements. He emphasizes that the needs of vulnerable youth remain present year-round, including during the summer period.
TÉO also notes that it has analyzed the financial impacts of this measure in order to maintain responsible and sustainable management of the organization. It also reiterates the importance of stable and predictable funding to support regional efforts in school perseverance.
