New flood zone mapping in Quebec

New flood zone mapping in Quebec

9 April 2026 à 11:15 am

The Government of Quebec has been rolling out a new flood zone mapping system since March 2026, which could affect home insurance for many homeowners and tenants. Possible impacts include higher premiums, limited coverage, or more complex enrollment for flood protection.

CAA-Quebec reminds residents that prevention is protection. Simple measures can help reduce risk: installing a backwater valve or a sump pump, protecting foundations, doors, and windows, raising vulnerable systems, avoiding storing valuables in the basement, and using rot-resistant materials. Keeping records of any work done is also recommended to make discussions with insurers easier.

The organization offers advice and personalized support to help members adjust their coverage and protect their homes. With the new budget, Quebec plans to invest $425 million over five years to strengthen residential resilience, notably through the Rénoclimat program.
