Family caregivers: employers struggle to meet their needs, according to the Ordre des CRHA
A survey by the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés reveals that 70% of Quebec organizations consider themselves poorly or not at all prepared to support employees who are family caregivers. Only 18% have incorporated this reality into their human resources policies.
With an aging population, 81% of respondents anticipate an increase in requests for accommodations to balance work and caregiving responsibilities. While two-thirds of employers already offer measures such as flexible hours or remote work, communication about these supports remains limited.
Furthermore, only a quarter of managers have been made aware of the challenges faced by family caregivers, a key issue for better supporting these employees.
Finally, nearly half of organizations are unaware of the Government Action Plan for Family Caregivers (2021–2026), which aims to improve work-life balance.
