Power outages in several municipalities in the Pontiac region due to high winds and heavy snowfall

17 March 2026 à 10:53 am

A major power outage has been affecting several municipalities in the Pontiac region since this morning, notably in Sheenboro, Chichester, and L’Isle-aux-Allumettes. According to Hydro-Québec, the outage was caused by a combination of strong winds and heavy snowfall, which disrupted the power grid.

Hydro-Québec crews are currently on site to restore service, with power expected to be back on around 3 p.m. Local authorities are hoping that a little St. Patrick’s Day luck will speed up the restoration.

To assist affected residents, the St-Joseph Hall, located at 6 St-Joseph Street in L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, is open so that residents can charge their electronic devices or use the facilities. The Chapeau municipal office, at 75 Notre-Dame Street, is also offering a place of refuge with coffee available.

City staff are in regular contact with Hydro-Québec and are committed to sharing any new information as it becomes available.

Residents are asked to be patient and take the necessary precautions to stay warm while waiting for power to be restored.
