Comptoir Saint-Pierre is celebrating 50 years of service today to families, individuals, and children in vulnerable situations in the Pontiac region.

Founded in 1975, Comptoir Saint-Pierre’s mission is to meet the essential needs of the population — a mission that remains more relevant than ever in the current economic climate. Over the decades, the organization has evolved, innovated, and adapted its services to effectively support the community.

Historically recognized for its clothing assistance, as well as the collection and repair of garments, Comptoir Saint-Pierre now plays a crucial role for many families, including those in the middle class who are facing increasing financial challenges.

Thanks to the generosity of the community, the organization offers quality clothing at low cost — and sometimes free of charge. Surplus clothing is recycled and redistributed each week to Tri Outaouais, extending the Comptoir’s impact beyond the MRC du Pontiac to the entire Outaouais region.

However, demand for household appliances continues to grow, while donations in this category remain limited, representing a significant challenge for the organization.

The Warden of Pontiac, Jane Toller, was present at the 50th anniversary luncheon and took the opportunity to address those gathered for the occasion:

For the past seven years, Comptoir Saint-Pierre has been running a socio-professional integration project designed for people with disabilities. Carried out in collaboration with several partners — including the Centre de services scolaire des Hauts-Bois-de-l’Outaouais, the CISSS de l’Outaouais (CISSSO), CPO, Centraide Outaouais, and TransportAction — the project allows participants to develop their intellectual, academic, and social skills through various work placements.

During the summer period, participants continue their learning experience within the day camp program. The initiative also provides significant support to foster families and contributes to the social and professional inclusion of people with disabilities within the community.

Comptoir Saint-Pierre is a community organization that has been active since 1975 in the MRC du Pontiac. Its mission is to support individuals and families in vulnerable situations through essential services, while promoting social inclusion and community engagement.
