Quebec: Vehicle Thefts See Sharp Decline in 2025

17 February 2026 à 12:59 pm

Good news for Quebec drivers: vehicle thefts dropped by 25% in 2025 compared to 2024, according to a report by Équité Association, an organization specializing in insurance crime prevention.

A total of 7,742 vehicles were stolen in Quebec in 2025, down from 10,290 the previous year. The decline was also significant in Ontario (-22%) and across Canada as a whole (-18%). Nearly half of the vehicles stolen in Quebec were recovered, and half of the thefts involved SUVs.

Among the most targeted models in 2024, the 2022 Jeep Gladiator ranked first, followed by the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover and the 2020 Toyota C-HR.

However, the report highlights a growing concern: while the number of thefts has decreased, vehicle financing fraud increased by 72% in the ports of Quebec and Nova Scotia. Criminals are using identity theft to secure auto loans and purchase insurance policies in order to commit fraud.

Despite the overall decline in thefts, Équité Association is calling for innovative initiatives to counter the increasingly sophisticated methods of organized crime, which continues to fund illegal activities such as drug and firearms trafficking.

Vehicle Theft Trends in Canada:
