A Hike at Sault-des-Chats to Explore the History of the Horse-Drawn Road

13 February 2026 à 11:17 am

Les Amis du Sault-des-Chats are offering a unique winter outing for history and nature enthusiasts. The hike, scheduled for February 21, will explore the historic horse-drawn road built in 1846–1847 by John Egan, Ruggle Wright, and Joseph Aumond. The road was once used to bypass the Chats Falls on the Ottawa River and facilitate river navigation.

During the excursion, participants will have the opportunity to observe historical remains, including footbridges and areas that are usually inaccessible during the summer months.

To extend the experience, organizers invite participants to warm up after the hike at the Egan Mill with a hot chocolate or other treats.

As space is limited, advance registration is strongly recommended.
