Over 40% of Android Devices Worldwide Now Vulnerable to Malware, Google Data Shows

According to the latest Google data (December 2025), more than 40% of Android devices worldwide are now vulnerable to malware and spyware attacks. Unlike Apple’s closed ecosystem, Android is an open system, which makes it more exposed to security threats.

Market fragmentation is significant: only recent versions (Android 13 to 16) continue to receive official security updates. Older versions (Android 12 and earlier) are no longer supported, leaving users exposed.

Manufacturers often provide updates for just three years for entry-level or mid-range models, while premium devices may receive five to seven years of support. As a result, many devices still in use have become easy targets for hackers.

Tips to Stay Protected:

  • Upgrade your phone if it cannot run Android 13 or later.

  • Install a mobile antivirus solution, even though it cannot patch system vulnerabilities.

  • Avoid apps from unknown sources and remain cautious of suspicious messages.

How to Check Your Android Version:

  • Go to Settings → About Phone → Android Version

  • To check for updates: Settings → System → Software Update → Check for Updates
