Major Sûreté du Québec Operation Targeting Violence Against Women This Wednesday

25 November 2025 à 8:53 am

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ), together with its partners, has launched the Coordinated National Operation on Preventing Intimate Partner Violence (ONCP VPI). Although the initiative spans 12 days, the main operation is taking place this Wednesday, November 26. The event is part of the 12 Days of Action Against Violence Toward Women and Girls. Across Quebec, police services, support organizations, and government partners will join forces to raise public awareness about intimate partner violence (IPV) and promote available resources.

For the fourth consecutive year, the awareness activities on November 26 will be held mainly at strategic locations along the road network. Some will take the form of information booths or foot patrols. Last year, the roughly 200 operations were highly successful. People who were approached showed strong interest and appreciation for the opportunity to speak with police officers and frontline workers about IPV. These activities highlight the importance of mobilizing all stakeholders in the fight against intimate partner violence.

“For the fourth consecutive year, the coordinated national operation reflects our shared commitment to acting differently. It shows the strength of collective work between police officers and specialists from support organizations. Together, we meet citizens to raise awareness, prevent violence, and above all, open the door for people to seek help. Sometimes, a single helping hand can make all the difference for a victim,” said Caroline Girard, Lieutenant Coordinator of the team dedicated to combating intimate partner violence at the Sûreté du Québec.

In the Pontiac region, L’Entourelle provides services in this area.
