SURVEY: Work–Family Balance — Moving from Awareness to Concrete Action

SURVEY: Work–Family Balance — Moving from Awareness to Concrete Action

27 October 2025 à 12:42 pm

Despite the openness shown by a majority of employers, balancing work and family life remains a daily challenge for more than four in ten Quebec workers with parental or caregiving responsibilities.

This situation — except for the pandemic period — has remained largely unchanged since the launch of the annual work–family balance survey conducted by Léger for Concilivi, an initiative of the Réseau pour un Québec Famille (RPQF).

Corinne Vachon Croteau from the Réseau pour un Québec Famille (RPQF) shared more details on the matter.

One of the key issues is that, on the surface, everything seems to be going well: year after year, the majority of respondents say they are able to balance work and family relatively easily. However, a closer look at the data reveals that this balance comes at a cost: 58% report an impact on their mental health, 46% on their physical health, 39% on their ability to fulfill family responsibilities, 33% on their social life, and 32% on their relationship with their partner.

The Concilivi initiative was specifically designed to support employers in engaging in dialogue with their employees that leads to concrete commitments in supporting work–family balance.

Another point worth noting is that the survey shows a clear 5-percentage-point decline in the practice of telework, even though 79% of respondents consider it helpful for achieving work–family balance. This perception is even stronger among women (85%), parents of children with special needs (87%), and parents of school-aged children (approximately 84%).
