Observations in School Zones: Speed Limits Quickly Forgotten

Observations in School Zones: Speed Limits Quickly Forgotten

24 October 2025 à 8:41 am

To assess how well drivers respect speed limits in school zones, CAA-Québec conducted an observation exercise during three separate periods — before, during, and after the start of the school year.

By the end of the third round of observations, carried out just a few days after classes resumed, the findings were alarming: 89% of drivers failed to obey the speed limit.

As old habits die hard, CAA-Québec stresses that such behavior endangers the lives of the most vulnerable — our children.

Simon Bourassa from CAA-Québec provided a detailed report on the situation.

Between August 21st and October 3rd, observation activities were carried out on three separate occasions in front of schools.

The goal was straightforward: to measure vehicle speeds and determine whether drivers were respecting the speed limit in school zones.

Once again, Simon Bourassa explains the risky behaviors observed during their monitoring.
