Full Lifting of the Ban on Open-Air Fires in or Near Forests
Full Lifting of the Ban on Open-Air Fires in or Near Forests
The Ministry of Public Security will fully lift the ban on open-air fires in or near forests starting today, October 21, at 12:00 p.m., due to the significant rainfall that has fallen and is still expected throughout the day. This decision was made in collaboration with SOPFEU. The restriction had been in effect since September 30.
Currently, seven forest fires are active in Quebec within Intensive Protection Zones (IPZ). Since the beginning of the protection season, 511 fires have affected 1,298.7 hectares in IPZs. By comparison, the 10-year average for the same date is 448 fires impacting 118,665.3 hectares of forest.
