International Day of Older Persons: Seven National Organizations Committed to the Well-Being of Seniors

3 October 2025 à 12:44 pm

On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, seven national organizations dedicated to the well-being of seniors are gathering today at the National Assembly of Quebec, during a motion presented by the Minister Delegate for Health and Seniors, Ms. Caroline Proulx.

For the very first time, the Conférence des Tables régionales de concertation des aînés du Québec, AREQ, FADOQ, Proche aidance Québec, the Association québécoise des retraité(e)s des secteurs public et parapublic (AQRP), the Association québécoise de défense des droits des personnes retraitées et préretraitées (AQDR), and Intergénérations Québec are joining forces to deliver a common message: seniors are the pillars of our communities.

According to these organizations, greater recognition of the role of older adults in our communities is an important step toward a more inclusive society. The theme, Seniors: Pillars of Our Communities, highlights the invaluable contributions of seniors—not only to their families but also to their social circles and communities in an intergenerational spirit. Widely engaged in volunteer work, older adults have a positive impact on their surroundings. They also play a key role in preserving culture, transmitting strong social values, and energizing local economies.

The collaboration among these organizations demonstrates a strong commitment from Quebec’s non-profits to combat ageism and improve the living conditions of seniors.

To mark the International Day of Older Persons, numerous activities are taking place across the province. To explore them, consult the interactive activities map.
