What Do Families Expect from Their Municipality?
In the lead-up to the municipal elections on November 2, the team at the Observatoire asked: what do families expect from their municipality? To find out, they surveyed parents of young children across Quebec to better understand their needs and concerns.
The result: insightful data, paired with numerous inspiring municipal initiatives aimed at better supporting families. Parents identified three key priorities that municipalities should focus on to improve the living conditions of both families and their young children.
Julie Cailliau, Director of the Observatoire des tout-petits, provides further details:
Overall, parents acknowledge the efforts of their municipality in early childhood, regardless of its size. However, 89% of parents consider it important for their municipality to offer more activities for families with children aged 0 to 5.
Again, Julie Cailliau adds:
Municipalities can take action to improve families’ access to affordable, quality housing, for example by promoting availability of social housing. In the Outaouais region, the situation is reportedly concerning.
Again, Julie Cailliau adds:
Access to affordable housing and the financial insecurity of families are growing concerns for parents of young children.
