L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet Group Launches Phase III of the “Honor Our Roots” Project

L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet Group Launches Phase III of the “Honor Our Roots” Project

1 October 2025 à 12:45 pm

Last Monday, the organizing committee of the L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet Group officially launched Phase III of the Honor Our Roots project. As volunteer Guylaine La Salle explains, this new phase aims to expand the list of 900 deceased adults in preparation for the printing and installation of commemorative panels, with the goal of preserving and passing on the community’s collective memory.

Since 2018, Honor Our Roots has sought to pay tribute to the ancestors buried at Ste-Anne Cemetery, founded in 1846, where gravestones are rare or even absent. Using the parish records of Ste-Anne and the research efforts of multiple volunteers, a list of 1,500 individuals buried at this historic site has been reconstructed. The group has invested over $80,000 to highlight and preserve the region’s heritage.
