Fort-Coulonge Will Have a New Mayor: Christine Francoeur to Run as Councillor
The Mayor of the Village of Fort-Coulonge, Christine Francoeur, has made her decision: she will run again in the upcoming municipal election, but not for the mayor’s seat. This time, she is seeking election as a councillor.
Francoeur explained that her choice follows her acceptance of a new position as an assistant to Pontiac–Kitigan Zibi Member of Parliament Sophie Chatel. Since holding both roles would not be possible, she has opted to run for Councillor Seat No. 1 instead.
Francoeur addressed her fellow citizens in a statement shared with CHIP 101.9:
“After careful consideration, I have decided not to run again as Mayor in the next municipal election. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve our community in this role, and I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me over the years. However, a new job requires me to reorganize my commitments. Wanting to continue contributing to the development and well-being of our municipality, I have chosen to run this time as a municipal councillor. This role will allow me to remain active and engaged with you while balancing my new professional responsibilities. I wish to continue working as part of a team, bringing forward your concerns and supporting projects that matter to me. Thank you for your past support, and I hope I can count on your confidence for this new chapter.”
In a phone interview, Francoeur added that she also wishes to continue supporting the Fort-Coulonge Council on certain projects, such as improving local infrastructure.
