First Bus Shelter Installed in the Pontiac MRC
A new development has appeared along Highway 148 in the Pontiac. The MRC Pontiac yesterday inaugurated its Carrefour de transport project at the intersection of Highways 148 and 301 North. The project includes, among other features, a park-and-ride lot and a bus shelter. Located on MRC Pontiac property at the junction of two major roadways—Highway 148 and Highway 301 North—the initiative represents, according to the MRC, a significant step forward in enhancing public transit services and promoting sustainable mobility in the region.
The project includes a new secure access point linking Highway 148 to Highway 301 North, facilitating entry to the site and ensuring safe circulation for buses on MRC grounds. In addition, a bus stop with a shelter for the 910 intercity line operated by Transcollines is now in place. The site also features a park-and-ride lot for carpoolers and public transit users. Five electric vehicle charging stations have been installed, along with landscaping designed to green the site and reduce the visual and environmental impact of paved surfaces.
“This transportation hub is becoming a key point for travel in the Pontiac. It represents an essential investment to improve mobility and support sustainable development in our territory,” said Jane Toller, Warden of the MRC Pontiac.
This project is part of a broader vision to improve public transit services across the MRC Pontiac. Transcollines is expected to launch an on-demand transit (ODT) service along Highway 148 in the near future. The Pontiac transportation hub was made possible through a “vitalization” agreement between the MRC Pontiac and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, as part of the Fonds régions et ruralité.
