The Council of Mayors of the Pontiac MRC Calls for an End to the Carbon Tax to Support Local Gas Stations
At its most recent meeting, the Council of Mayors of the Pontiac MRC called on the Quebec government to abolish the carbon tax and follow the example set by Ontario. According to Jane Toller, Warden of the Pontiac MRC, such a measure would provide crucial support for local gas stations, particularly those located along Highway 148, which face direct competition from Ontario businesses.
For Jane Toller, this situation harms the Pontiac’s economy. She argues that the region’s proximity to Ontario leads to capital outflow, as motorists crossing the border not only fill up their tanks but also purchase additional goods and services in the neighboring province. The Council of Mayors hopes that the Quebec government and Pontiac MNA André Fortin will recognize the impact of this issue and take action.
