Sophie Chatel Invites Public to Contribute to the Homes Canada Initiative on the Housing Crisis

21 August 2025 à 8:59 am

Pontiac–Kitigan Zibi MP Sophie Chatel is inviting residents, organizations, and housing-sector partners in the region to participate in the national consultation Maisons Canada (Homes Canada), a new federal initiative aimed at finding solutions to the housing crisis.

The Market Survey Guide for Maisons Canada was released in recent hours. The survey allows participants to share their perspectives and recommendations to help shape an action plan, including input from rural and semi-rural communities such as Pontiac.

According to MP Sophie Chatel, Maisons Canada will provide tools to accelerate the construction of affordable housing in smaller municipalities, support developers and builders by improving access to financing, and promote innovative, faster, and more environmentally friendly construction methods.

Since her election, Chatel has emphasized that housing is one of her key priorities. “The housing crisis affects every community, large and small. Your voice is essential in building a plan that truly works for Pontiac–Kitigan Zibi. By taking part in this consultation, you are directly contributing to shaping a future where everyone has access to adequate housing,” she said.

The MP is encouraging anyone interested to send their comments and recommendations on the Maisons Canada initiative by August 29, 2025 to: bchengagement-mobilisationmc@infc.gc.ca.
