Jane Toller not seeking re-election
This story has been updated from its original version.
Pontiac Warden Jane Toller announced earlier today (July 23) that she will not be seeking a third term in this fall’s municipal elections.
Toller made the announcement at a press conference at her bed and breakfast the Spruceholm Inn, with several local media outlets. Toller was first elected warden of MRC Pontiac back in 2017, winning 47% (3,597 votes), far ahead of second place finisher and incumbent Raymond Durocher with 17.85% (1,366 votes). She was re-elected in 2021 by a smaller margin, winning 52.69% (3,301 votes), ahead of Mike McCrank at 47.31% (2,964 votes).
Before moving to the Pontiac in 2012, Toller served as a Toronto city councillor for several years and ran for mayor of Canada’s biggest city in 2006, placing second.
She said that the primary reasons for not running this fall came down to spending more time with her family as well as devoting more focus to her theological studies and her businesses. She added that she would like to invest more time with the Pontiac Pool project.
She said that it would be “inappropriate” for her to endorse either of the candidates that have already declared their intention to run, Josey Bouchard and Jean-Pierre Landry, but hinted that there may be more entrants to the race now that she’s stepped back.
