MRC Pontiac – Local tourism ambassador (student position)

The Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Pontiac is located in southwestern Quebec, bordering the majestic Ottawa River, which forms a natural border with Ontario. It is renowned for its rich natural resources, built heritage and cultural diversity. The Pontiac has a population of just over 14,000, 57% of whom are English-speaking, spread over 18 municipalities and an unorganized territory of 9,000 km2. The MRC has bilingual status.

Under the supervision of the Economic Development Commissioner for Tourism, the Local Tourism Ambassador will welcome visitors, provide tourist information, write and manage a blog and update the Bureau d’information touristique (BIT) database. This is a highly independent position requiring a self-motivated individual with excellent knowledge of the Pontiac’s various assets and attractions.

PRINCIPALES FONCTIONS

• Answer tourism questions; phone, email, social media;
• Maintain and update the Tourist Information Bureau database;
• Collaborate with content creation for Destination Pontiac: visit attractions, conduct research, interviews and collect data and photos for a series of publications and blogs published weekly on social media;
• Visit selected attractions and events to provide tourist information;
• Stock and clean the Tourist Information Relays with Pontiac tourist maps, Pontiac business guides and Outaouais tourist guides;
• Deliver Pontiac tourist maps to a variety of businesses on the territory (service stations, tourist sites, restaurants, etc.);
• Receive visitors and clients of the MRC;
• Carry out minor repairs to certain facilities (e.g. painting);
• Update the list of tourist attractions, cultural attractions and tourist services for the destinationpontiac.com website, while helping to group and structure all our photos on a main platform.

EXPERIENCE AND PROFILE REQUIRED

• Good knowledge of the Pontiac in general, as well as its tourist attractions;
• Ability to work alone, without much direction;
• Must be fluent in French (bilingualism is an asset);
• Good knowledge and very comfortable with the usefulness of social media (Facebook, Instagram, Snap- chat, etc.);
• Interest in tourism, marketing or communications is an asset;
• Must be in school or enrolled in a program of study;
• Experience and skills in customer service;
• Availability to work weekends (alternating weeks);
• Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Between 25 and 35 hours per week;
• Office and field work;
• Every other weekend;
• Compensation of $20.10/hour.
