The municipality of L’Ile-du-Grand-Calumet is currently struggling with an internal conflict that has been brought to the attention of the Commission Municipale du Québec (CMQ) over the past few days.

A complaint was filed against the councilor of seat #5 at the municipality of Ile-du-Grand-Calumet, Réjean Meilleur, in which he is accused of uttering “threats against the general management”, which Meilleur has since denied. According to the documents obtained by CHIP 101.9 from the CMQ, the councilman is “cited in deontology before the jurisdictional section” for “breaches of the rules provided in the Code d’éthique et de déontologie des élus de la municipalité de l’Île-du-Grand-Calumet (Code of Ethics for Elected Officials) in the Municipality of the L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet”. Notably, he would have described the director general, Sabrina Larivière, and the assistant general manager, Philippe Côté, as “pousseux de crayon (pencil pushers)” and would have “disrespected” Larivière by saying « toi ma petite je pourrais t’enterrer ». After being contacted by the CHIP 101.9 newsroom, the general manager declined to comment.

Now, depending on the verdict of the changes laid against him, councilor Meilleur may be forced to resign from his position. Réjean Meilleur also declined to comment, but promised to deliver his comments and impressions following the decision made by the CMQ, which should be in November.

In addition to five different mayors holding the position in the municipality of L’Ile-du-Grand-Calumet over the span of about five years (Paul-Émile Maleau, Irène Nadeau, Pierre Fréchette, Jean-Louis Corriveau and Serge Newberry), the municipality, during the same time, has also seen five general managers (Jacques Mantha, Lisa Dagenais, Lisa Boisvert, Paul Langlois and the current manager Sabrina Larivière).
