Mansfield weightlifter Xavier Lusignan is back home from Colombia after competing in the Junior Pan-American Games. Though he didn’t bring home a medal, his performance was strong enough to earn him a spot at the top of Canada’s junior weightlifting rankings for his category. This puts him in a better position to establish himself on the international scene.
As one of the younger competitors at the games, he said he picked up a lot from the other weightlifters and their teams.
« I met new people ... I studied all the other countries, how they train, how they carry themselves outside the competition. It was a very good experience. » Lusignan said.
He said that the next competition on his schedule will be the Commonwealth Championships in Singapore, which he is looking forward to. Longer term, he has aspirations of qualifying for the 2024 Olympics and will be watching this summer’s games closely.
