Pontiac newspapers win numerous awards

Pontiac’s two newspapers were recognized with several awards from the Quebec Community Newspaper Association’s better newspapers competition. The Equity and the Pontiac Journal were recognized with 7 and 8 collective and individual awards respectively.

The Equity was named best overall newspaper and placed first in the best front page and best feature page categories. They also claimed second place for best editorial page and third for best headline writing. Former Equity journalist Emily Hsueh took third place for best business feature and former editor Caleb Nickerson placed first in the best sports photo category.

The Journal’s Allyson Beauregard and Carl Hager had the best business story and Beauregard also placed second for best general editorial. François Carrier claimed second place in the best French-language news story and third for best French-language editorial, while Fred Ryan placed third and first in those respective categories. The Journal also took second in the best ad category and Jesse Clouthier placed second for best small advertising creation.
