Pontiac Native Community marks National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

30 September 2022 à 12:00 am

The Pontiac Native Community hosted a gathering at their healing garden in Mansfield on September 30 to mark the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. Community President Lise Romain told CHIP 101.9 the day before why it’s important to have a day of remembrance.

The date was declared a federal holiday by parliament in June 2021, to honor the deceased children and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. The local ceremony took place at the “Pontiac Anishinaabe Healing Garden” in Mansfield-et-Pontefract, which is located on chemin de la Chute.

The full (French-language) interview with Romain is available here.
