Mayor Karen Daly Kelly is hoping to return to her seat on November 7 to carry on with a second term. She is running against the same opponent as in 2017, Terry Murdock, whom she beat with roughly 66% of the vote.

Prior to her election to mayor, Kelly was a councillor and served a number of roles in the municipal office, from assistant to director general to bylaw officer. She has lived in Thorne for the past 45 years and said that what she enjoys about the municipality is the incredible natural beauty.

Looking back on the past term, Kelly said she was proud of the council’s work to maintain local roads and protect the local environment.

Looking ahead, Kelly said that if she were elected, she would prioritize keeping taxes low and continuing the improvement of internet and cell phone service to the municipality.
