Several announcements to support recreational and sports infrastructure projects across the region were made jointly by the governments of Canada and Quebec. Last Friday, the federal deputy for Pontiac, William Amos, and the provincial deputy for Gatineau, Robert Bussière, announced the joint funding of $ 267,044 to the municipality of La Pêche for the development of a multi-sports area in its future Central park in Sainte-Cécile-de-Masham. This funding will allow residents of La Pêche to have access to modern and safe facilities that will promote an active, healthy and inclusive lifestyle.

“The Government of Canada is committed to supporting municipalities in their community development projects. I am delighted with this funding for the municipality of La Pêche and its residents of all ages, who will be able to benefit from a synthetic multisport surface. The pandemic has demonstrated the importance for our rural communities to have access to quality sports and recreational infrastructure that will benefit all citizens, “believes Pontiac MP William Amos.

More specifically, the municipality will develop a multifunctional synthetic surface, allowing in particular the practice of sports such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, ultimate frisbee and ball hockey. This multisport surface, which will be accessible to all age groups, can be used during the 4 seasons since an outdoor ice rink can be set up.

“In partnership with the governments of Quebec and Canada, the municipality of La Pêche is acquiring a versatile high-quality sports infrastructure that will promote healthy lifestyles for our citizens, while encouraging the active aging of our people. A big thank you to all citizens, municipal employees and elected officials, municipal, provincial and federal, for their contribution to this important project, ”said the mayor of La Pêche, Guillaume Lamoureux.

This project will allow the municipality to offer its population a modern and quality recreational infrastructure. The Government of Quebec is investing $ 133,522 through its Financial Assistance Program for Recreational and Sports Infrastructures, while the Government of Canada is investing $ 133,522 through the Canada Community, Cultural and Recreational Infrastructure component of the Investing in infrastructure program.

“With today’s announcement, the municipality of La Pêche will be able to acquire a multisport activity area allowing, among other things, the practice of hockey, soccer and basketball. This sports and recreational equipment will be important and appreciated by its population. I am happy that the municipality can benefit from this financial assistance which will help its local economy and will also facilitate the pursuit of physical activities so necessary for the health of all, “said Gatineau MNA Robert Bussière.
