Michel Gauthier, the Conservative Party of Canada’s candidate in the Pontiac riding held a virtual press conference on July 21 regarding forest management and forest fire protection. He was joined by the party’s Quebec lieutenant Richard Martel, who discussed the SOPFEU office in Maniwaki. Gauthier said that their party would commit to investing in forest health and the prevention and detection of forest fires.

« With climate change, it is essential to have more research in this area. We can further develop existing techniques,», Gauthier said (Translated).

When asked about the relevance of this commitment to other areas within the riding, Gauthier said that he believed it would have benefits for MRC Pontiac. In the spring, Warden Jane Toller also supported the MRC Vallée-de-la-Gatineau in their goal of maintaining management positions at SOPFEU’s office in Maniwaki, noting that several Pontiacers work for the organization.
