Announcement of road projects in the Outaouais

The Minister of Families and Minister responsible for the Outaouais region, Mathieu Lacombe, announced yesterday (Monday, April 12), investments of $ 212,144,000 for the next two years to ensure the maintenance and improvement of road infrastructure in the Outaouais region. This amount is more than announced last year.

“Today’s announcement will no doubt be received as a breath of fresh air by the people of the Outaouais region. In the current context, we are in dire need of investment to maintain and create jobs here. In addition, carrying out these projects will concretely improve our quality of life by allowing safer and more efficient travel throughout our network ”, wishes the Minister of Families and Minister responsible for the Outaouais region, Mathieu Lacombe.

Here is the work announced for the Pontiac:
Campbell’s Bay: Repair of the roadway on Front Street, between Leslie Street and Route 148
Île-du-Grand-Calumet: Rehabilitation of the Monseigneur-Martel bridge, on Wilson road
Otter Lake: Asphalting of Route 301, between Route 366 and Stephens Road
Otter Lake: Reconstruction of the Polish Hills Road Bridge, over the Picanoc River
Municipality of Pontiac: Culvert repair program
Municipality of Pontiac: Reconstruction of the culvert on Chemin du Lac-des-Loups, above the Tracey stream
Municipality of Pontiac: Repair of the roadway on Route 148, in the four-lane portion
Portage-du-Fort: Maintenance of the bridge located on route 301, over the Ottawa River
Thorne: Culvert Intervention Program

The government insisted that in this context of a pandemic, these investments will have an impact in maintaining more than half a million direct and indirect jobs throughout Quebec. These public investments will also generate economic spinoffs of several billion dollars, according to the government.

“Once again this year, your government is showing that investing massively in the improvement and good condition of roads and structures in the Outaouais is a priority. We want the economic recovery to go through the transport sector in particular, and therefore through the completion of the many projects unveiled today. Thanks to the sustained involvement of my fellow MNAs, a government will never have invested so much in repairing the transport infrastructure in your region, ”said the Minister of Transport and Minister responsible for the Estrie region, François Bonnardel.

Here are the other highlights across the Outaouais
• The sums invested in the Outaouais region break down as follows:
– $ 86,736,000 for pavements in good condition;
– $ 40,441,000 for structures in good condition;
– $ 84,255,000 for an efficient and secure network, in particular to follow up
recommendations from the Coroner’s Office;
– $ 712,000 for the maintenance in good condition of structures and culverts located on
abandoned railway rights-of-way.

• Other projects announced include:
– the widening of Highway 50 between Findlay Road in Gatineau and Chemin
Doherty, in L’Ange-Gardien;
– the addition of traffic lights at the intersection of route 366 and chemin de
Chambord, in Gatineau;
– repair of the roadway and culverts on Baskatong Road, in Grand Remous.
