As of June 19, 2012, only packets displaying warnings larger may be sold
Warnings that appear on cigarette packages for 10 years will soon be a memory.
New warnings larger, announced by Health Canada last September, have gradually emerged throughout the spring. As of June 19, retailers cannot sell that packet of cigarettes and little cigars that bear new warnings.

Warnings are more visible and now cover 75% of the front and back of packages, compared with 50% previously.

Each warning will also include toll free assistance (1-866-527-7383 or 1-866 JARRETE) and the address of a website (www.vivezsansfumee.gc.ca / abandonment) they will direct smokers to available counseling and other resources to free themselves of tobacco - a first in Canada.

Canada was the first country to require the presence of pictorial warnings on cigarette packages in 2000. To learn more about the new warnings and labels related, please visit the following website: www.hc-sc.gc.ca
