New road safety measures are now in effect in Quebec.  Driving while impaired and street racing or surfing vehicle (car surfing) will be particularly subject to harsher penalties. It is now illegal for pedestrians to cross the road diagonally. The blood alcohol limit is 0.05 for taxi drivers, buses and heavy trucks.

Those convicted more than twice of driving while impaired will have to install an ignition interlock device related to a breath test, for the rest of their lives.

People arrested with twice the legal limit will be evaluated by an addiction center.
