A young 5 year old girl drowned on Friday in the Rivière du Livère in Ferme-Neuve, near Mont-Laurier.

Alicia Guénette ‘s body was recovered Saturday morning. The girl was playing on the shore with a 12 year old child and was not wearing a life jacket.

This was the 33rd drowning since the beginning of the year in Quebec. That's 11 more than last year at this time. According to authorities, this increase is probably due to the early arrival of warm weather.

Only one out of 10 drowning takes place in a pool. The majority of the drowning occurs in lakes and rivers.
