The long weekend of Victoria Day marked the beginning of a period of intense work to the base of Maniwaki the Society for the Protection of forests against fire. In about two weeks, SOPFEU fought 118 forest fires affecting an area of ​​34 117.8 hectares.

Because of an early spring and prolonged drought conditions were conducive to forest fires. Over 80% of fires fought by firefighters until now were started by human negligence.
