The Hell or High Water Weekend, the annual celebration of the Petawawa River, has been declared a fantastic success.

Onlookers of all ages crowded the shoreline of the Petawawa River near the Catwalk to take in the sights of people shooting the rapids in kayaks and rafts, or on the beaches of the Petawawa Point to watch teams compete in dragon boat races. More than 350 participants took part in the whitewater rafting and kayak races, now an annual event for kayakers from across the province.

The rafting event sold out a week in advance, with several teams left on a waiting list, and attracting teams from across Canada, with some participants from as far as British Colombia, backing claims this is the largest whitewater race in Canada, if not the world.

Supported by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, the dragons attracted hundreds of people to the beaches at the Petawawa Point to watch teams from across the Ottawa Valley battle each other in a tough, 20-metre flat-water sprints
