The RCMP dismantles an international network of fraudsters
The RCMP have dismantled an international network of fraudsters. The operation took place at 60 sites in Laval, Montreal, South Shore, the North Shore and Ontario.
A total of 61 arrest warrants have been filed. Those arrested or who will be in the coming hours, will be charged with gangsterism, fraud, card forgery and identity theft.
The RCMP estimates that 100 million potential fraud committed by the network.
More than 250 officers from various police forces involved in the operation headed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
This is the result of an operation conducted since November 2010 which aimed to counter fraud with credit cards and debit cards. This time, the criminals referred to have engaged in activities abroad.
The RCMP will review the operation at 10:00 am at its headquarters. More details are coming soon.
