A dump disturbs the quietness of Cantley
Residents of Cantley demand that the municipality addresses a new dump within its territory. Waste, whose provenance is unknown, has been buried on a private property on St. Elizabeth road, without the consent of the Municipality.
Several complaints were filed by neighbors who claim hearing for months now, the sound of trucks unloading waste at night. Since then the mass of waste was buried. The embankment in question measures seven meters in places and stretches for about 400 meters.
Discussions between the City and the landowner have persisted for over a year, but no agreement was reached.
Councilor Marion Alexander explained that the municipality now has to go to court to quickly address this problem.
The owner of the land, Marc McDermott, believes that his land is clean and does not intend to intervene. He finds that there is nothing illegal. He said the field contains only branches, earth and concrete. He added that neighbors and the municipality decided to make his life difficult at all costs.
His neighbor, Martin Bellemare, doesn’t share the same opinion. The accumulation of waste is a few meters from his residence and he’s noticed many metals and plastics on the site.
