The police presence on Quebec roads will increase until January 2 as part of operation VACCINE. The name of the operation means: Vérification accrue de la capacité de conduite – Intervention nationale, which translates to audit the ability of driving - national Intervention.

In a statement, the Sûreté du Québec says that that this operation is intended to raise awareness of impaired driving, especially during the holiday season. During traffic stops, police officers will distribute stickers with the message " drinking and driving, is a crime".

Driving impaired by alcohol or drugs remains one of the main causes of fatal collisions in Quebec. In 2015, the daily average was 21 drivers arrested during the operation.
