Financial Accessibility of Education
The Quebec Employers Council wishes to express its support for measures introduced today by the Minister of Education, Recreation and Sport, Ms. Line Beauchamp, and Finance Minister Raymond Bachand, to promote the access to university studies. The Council invites at the same time the student associations to take this announcement and urge their members to resume classes and talk with government financial assistance for university studies.
"The bonus announced of $ 21 million for the loans and scholarships (in addition to previously announced 118 million by 2017-2018), combined with the establishment of a new mechanism for loan repayment on the proportional income, will improve access to university in a more equitable way, without further penalizing all taxpayers. This is a golden opportunity to end the current boycott movement, "said the president of the Employers Council, Yves-Thomas Dorval.
Note that these measures address some of the proposals made by the Employers Council in recent years, including the Forum on the future of universities in December 2010.
