Earlier this afternoon, MRC Pontiac issued a press release announcing that Economic Development Director Cyndy Phillips would be stepping down from her position, effective May 27. Phillips was hired on as the head of the department in February 2020, taking over from Danielle Newman, who herself left the MRC in January 2020. She is the third economic development director at the MRC in the last four years, as Emilie Chazelas, who held the position before Newman, resigned from the post in May 2018.

“I am forever grateful not only for the privilege of working for the MRC Pontiac, but for having the opportunity to put programs and plans in place that will have tremendous impacts on the territory and the lives of our residents,” Phillips wrote in the press release. “As a resident and a parent to our next generation of Pontiacers, I take this opportunity to recognize the incredible talent and hard work of all of our employees, not only in the economic development department but in all departments that serve our territory with pride and professionalism. The future of the Pontiac is bright!”

The press release states that it was a personal decision made with her family that motivated Phillips’ departure. In the release, MRC Director general Bernard Roy and Warden Jane Toller praised Phillips’ work over the past two years.

“Ms. Cyndy Phillips’ tenure at the MRC Pontiac has been significant,” Roy wrote. “Under her leadership, the economic development team has grown in both breadth and depth over the past two years. Ms. Phillips leaves a competent team fully capable of meeting the future development challenges of the Pontiac.”

“It has been a great experience working with Cyndy Phillips, and her departure is a great loss for the MRC Pontiac,” Toller wrote. “Cyndy has revamped our economic development department resulting in a strong team to move forward. We are so grateful for all the work that she accomplished at the MRC, and how she persevered accomplishing numerous projects at one time. Cyndy has truly been a great asset and I know that her heart is in the Pontiac. I wish her every success with her future endeavors.’’

The statement adds that the hiring process for the position is currently underway.
