Last week, the Pontiac MP, William Amos, tabled a motion calling on the House of Commons to recognize the importance of a reliable and accessible digital infrastructure which could be beneficial to the economic development of rural areas (to health, safety and security of Canadians who live there).

Motion called M-208 also calls on the government to continue working to improve the connectivity in rural areas and consider investing more in digital infrastructure. In addition, the motion proposes that the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology to undertake a comprehensive study on wireless infrastructure in rural areas and that the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security to study the public security aspect of a digital infrastructure.

Motion M-208 will be deposited in the House of Commons in the early 2019.
