On behalf of Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defense Lawrence MacAulay, Pontiac MP William Amos announced funding of approximately $ 33,000 from the Government of Canada to assist the Pontiac Legions ($ 10,000), Quyon ($ 11,432.30) and Wakefield ($ 11,432.30). According to William Amos, this funding will allow the Legions to pay their operating costs so they can continue to provide important support to Veterans.

The Emergency Fund in Support of Veterans Organizations is part of Canada’s Economic Response Plan to Respond to the Impacts of the COVID19 Pandemic to Protect Jobs, Provide Emergency Support and Maintain companies afloat. “Our Legions play a vital role in the well-being of Veterans, their families and the community,” says William Amos. “Since the onset of the pandemic, one of my priorities has been to ensure that our community partners are able to continue to provide the essential support they offer to Veterans across the country. My meetings with the various branches of the Legion in the riding of Pontiac made me understand that help was crucial. The Emergency Fund to Support Veterans’ Organizations will provide these organizations with the resources they need to continue through this difficult time, and I hope Canadians will continue to support them as generously as they do. are used to doing it, ”said William Amos.

For the Government of Canada, the goal is to ensure that organizations that receive these funds will have access to the support they need to replace charitable donations and other income that is lost due to the pandemic. This will allow them to continue working with Veterans and their families when they need it most. In November, the Government of Canada provided $ 14 million to the National Command of The Royal Canadian Legion to enable rapid distribution of financial support / aid to their branches across the country. Dominion Command was responsible for determining which branches would receive funding.
