The water levels of the Ottawa River have stabilized in the Coulonge Lake area over the last few hours, but according to the Ottawa River Regulation Board, the water is expected to continue to drop again in the coming hours, but slowly. The municipalities in the Pontiac have begun to talk about the collection of sandbags.

In the municipality of Mansfield, where other than in the case of an obvious contamination (ex: odors), sandbags should be managed according to the 3RV principle (recycling, recovery, reuse). The following solutions are possible and respect the preferred order of 3RV:

• sandbags can be stored for future use;
• sandbags, or sand only, can be shipped to the municipal sand pit on Chemin du lac de La Truite for future use;

It is also important to note that the municipality of Mansfield recommend not to use sand or sandbags for children’s games, such as a sandbox, as the sand must be completely free of organic matter: toxic or dangerous.
