The Western Québec School Board (WQSB) issued a press release on its website addressing the Quebec government’s plan for reopening preschools, elementary schools and daycare centers on May 11 in cold regions such as the Outaouais.

”Western Québec wishes to make clear that while it respects the provincial directive to reopen elementary schools, it remains steadfast in its stand that in order to meet the directive, it must be assured that all safety standards and expectations for students and staff have been met. The Western Québec School Board is committed to the organization of all necessary procedures for a safe re-opening of elementary schools, and will not move forward unless all required standards have been met.” – WQSB press release.

According to the Chair of the WQSB Alain Guy, the Board is currently preparing for the reopening of Elementary schools though remains reserved on the reopening date as proposed by the Québec Government.

During Monday’s press briefing, Premier Francois Legault responded to a question on granting English School Boards more leniency for reopening schools. Though he remained firm on the government’s plan, adding that the parents will decide whether or not to send their child back to school.
