The MRC Pontiac confirmed at the most recent meeting of the mayors that it will sign an agreement with the City of Gatineau to update the mapping of flood zones and the regulatory framework, as well as improving management and communication tools in the event of a flood. This project is funded by the Government of Quebec as part of its flood prevention action plan “Towards a more disaster-resilient Quebec”, announced on March 1, 2018. The City of Gatineau will receive and provide management with $ 2,800,000 in financial assistance for the Collines-de-l’Outaouais, Papineau and Pontiac MRCs. The objective of the MRC Pontiac’s participation is to improve knowledge of any natural constraints and reduce the vulnerability of Pontiac communities.
