With major heat waves passing through the Pontiac over recent weeks, anl issue has arised for farmers in the Pontiac and surrounding regions. The lack of precipitation due to the heat wave has put a lot of stress on farmers to crop this season and therefore have enough hay to feed their cattle this winter.

According to the president of the UPA Pontiac, Scott Judd, the UPA is currently creating a file outlining the situation farmers are facing in the region to present it to the ministry of agriculture (Agricultural insurance) to provide aid to farmers.

As explained by Judd, it remains unclear when farmers may receive aid from the government, as the file shows that many farmers are currently facing different realities this season. However, other solutions are currency being discussed at the UPA such as sending various farmers full head of cattle west during the winter, as it was done in 2012, and establishing partnerships between the farmers in the regions.

Scott Judd also invited those facing difficulties this year to contact the UPA or Scott Judd directly at 819-744-0840 to develop their case.
