The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais insisted on reiterating that even if the region will pass into an orange zone on May 31, the spread of the virus is still possible. The director of public health in the Outaouais, Dr. Brigitte Pinard, mentioned that the schools were still under surveillance, since these are places that are more at risk.

There can always be an outbreak of cases. We know that a few weeks ago, the Pontac was grappling with several cases that appeared quickly. People are being asked to continue to apply distancing measures and to follow the rules

Although the Outaouais will return to orange soon, nothing is guaranteed for the next alert level.

“Nothing is settled, we still do not know if the Outaouais will be in yellow on June 14,” said Dr. Pinard.

However, the statistics are encouraging. The number of active cases in the Pontiac is at 8, for a total of 205 in the Outaouais.

Borders continue to be closed

Also during the press briefing, the border situation between Ontario and Quebec was discussed. For now, despite a change in alert level, it was confirmed that the border will remain closed, except for essential travel.

Targeted interventions for immunization

Vaccination is also going well in the Outaouais. Over 56% of the population has received at least a first dose of a vaccine. On the other hand, some communities have a lower vaccination rate. The mobile vaccination clinic combined with operations to vaccinate 12 to 17 year olds could therefore be a solution for the communities of Mansfield/Fort-Coulonge and L’Isle-aux-Allumettes.

“We still have strategies to develop, but this could be the way to allow the vaccination of communities where the vaccination rate is less high”
– Nency Héroux, director of the vaccination campaign in the Outaouais

242,075 people have now received a first dose in the Outaouais. According to Dr. Pinard, each day of vaccination in the Outaouais makes it possible to vaccinate approximately 1% of the population.
