The identity of the deceased during police altercation in Danford Lake reveiled

The person who died on December 28 in the Danford Lake area of the municipality of Alleyn-and-Cawood was officially identified by the Coroner’s Office as 36 year old Dennis Beaudoin. The (BEI) Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes continues to investigate the circumstance surrounding his death.

No other information is currently available.

Here is how the altercation played out: on December 28 At approximately 9:42 pm, a man reportedly called the police station to inform them that he had just left his home;
A while later, another man reportedly called the police, telling them that if they did not show up in the next 20 minutes, that he would kill his father and to have the officers kill him when they arrived;
At approximately 10:49 pm, police arrived at Danford Lake;
They encountered an individual armed with a bow and arrow and an iron bar;
The man shot an arrow at the police;
The officers then use their sidearms;
The man was reportedly transported to a medical facility where he was pronounced dead.

The BEI will determine the accuracy of this information. Seven investigators, arrived at the scene at 6:30 am, in charge of looking into the case.

The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes, used the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) as the supporting police force in this investigation. The SPVM provided 2 judicial identity technicians who will work under the supervision of the BEI investigators.

The BEI, which has the mandate to investigate all cases involving death caused by an officer during police intervention, asks anyone who has witnessed this event to communicate with him via the website www.bei.gouv.qc.ca.

The Office of Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes is mandated to investigate, at the request of the Minister of Public Safety, all cases where a person other than a police officer on duty, is seriously injured by a firearm used by a police officer during police intervention or during detention by a police force.
