The MNA for Pontiac, André Fortin, believes that the government of Quebec is on the wrong track by aiming to return to a balanced budget within 5 years. “We do not yet know the extent of the crisis. We have to keep some leeway to support our economy, ”says André Fortin.

André Fortin also thinks that the government’s plan for high-speed Internet accessibility is unrealistic. “The government affirms that all Quebecers will have access to high speed Internet in 2022, without putting in additional money. I don’t see how this is possible. The government lives in a fairytale world, ”says André Fortin. The member for Pontiac thinks that Internet accessibility will play an important role in attracting new residents to the Pontiac.

Since the start of the pandemic, students, politicians and business people have complained about the quality of the Internet through the Pontiac. “The government must ensure that all citizens in Quebec are equal and invest the necessary amounts, regardless of budget priorities,” says André Fortin.

Remember that in the Pontiac, Connexion Fiber Picanoc (CFP) filed an application for the Broadband Fund administered by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). The total desired grant is $ 40M. CFP intends to connect all households in the Pontiac and Vallée-de-la-Gatineau MRCs to High-Speed Internet. The FTTH (Fiber to the Home) project, which is expected to reach $ 57.5 million, plans to deploy nearly 3,000 km of fiber and connect 6,788 homes, including 5,369 subsidized homes, in more than 35 municipalities.
